Free Campfire Night Friday July 21st 6-9pm
Join us for a free evening of community and fun around the campfire! We’ll have songs, stories, and sharing of snacks!
This event will be at the Stotlze Land & Lumbar Co. Trumbull Canyon Camp and we will all meet at the Grandstand and shuttle up to the site.
This event is free but registration is required and space is limited. Also please note that all children must be accompanied by an adult!
Cattail Workshop Sunday September 10th 10am-4pm
Come learn about our friendly and helpful plant neighbor, the cattail! Cattails are one of the most widespread and readily available plants in wetlands throughout North America and beyond. They offer food, weaving material, fire tinder, and more all year round! In this class we will be harvesting and cooking with cattail starch, weaving projects, and maybe even making toys!
This event will take place in Whitefish, the exact location will be shared with registered participants closer to the event.
$35 per adult and children are free with a registered accompanying adult.
Please note all children must be accompanied by an adult.
Free Mushroom Walk Saturday October 7th 1-3pm
Come join us on an easy hike to look for and discover the fungus amongst us!
Location TBA!
Important note – we are NOT offering any positive identification on ANY mushroom you find! We may see several edible varieties, including honey mushrooms, chanterelles, and chicken-of-the-woods, but you are 100% responsible for the final identification of any mushrooms you decide to take home and assume all risk if you decide to eat them. Ravenwood’s goal in this event is to share our knowledge of where to find mushrooms and how to use field guides to identify them.

Natural Navigation Saturday October 28th 1-4pm
Join us to learn about how to use the world around you for navigation and finding your way even if you have no map or compass. The world is full of clues and answers about where you are, you just have to know where to look!
This event will be at the Stotlze Land & Lumbar Co. Trumbull Canyon Camp and we will all meet at the Grandstand and shuttle up to the site.
$15 per participant
Please note all children must be accompanied by an adult.
Fire in the Winter Woods Saturday January 13th 1-4pm
We’ll make campfires in the winter woods, with just a match or lighter and a woods knife. We’ll practice lighting matches, learn to assemble a fire structure that will catch quickly, and learn the tips and tricks of finding dry wood and tinder in the snowy or wet forest. We’ll harvest our own tinder, kindling, and firewood by hand (no saws), and make and tend our own little survival fires.

$15 per participant

Free Winter Tracking Walk Saturday January 27th 1-3pm
Come and learn to interpret the tracks and signs left behind by the forest creatures! We will survey the woods for signs of animals and play some tracking games designed to tune up your pattern-finding skills.

Spoon Carving Saturday February 17th, 2024 12-4pm
Come practice the ancient art of wood carving! We will take a green wood branch and craft it into a fine, durable spoon using hatchets, straight knives, and crook knives. We’ll cover knife safety, as well as wood selection and finishing your piece to a smooth texture that will be a pleasure to use.
This event will be at Glacier Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (GUUF) in Kalispell.
Ages 12 and up, $35 per participant.

Knife Sharpening Boards & Techniques Saturday February 24th, 2024 1-4pm
Join us to learn how to make a knife sharpening board from common materials and then how to effectively use it to keep your knives in pristine condition. Participants are welcome to bring their own fixed-blade woods knife or use one of Ravenwood’s knives for practice.
This event will be at Glacier Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (GUUF) in Kalispell.

Free Cottonwood Bud Salve Making Saturday March 23rd, 2024 1-3pm
Last spring, we harvested cottonwood buds and began infusing their rich cinnamon aroma Inyo oil. One year later, the oil is ready to use! Come make cottonwood bud salve, also known as Balm of Gilead, and harvest the spring cottonwood buds for next year’s balm!

We're known for our kid's programs, and we also know that school and summer camps are only part of the whole picture. So, we are thrilled to offer both adult and family workshops to support everyone's learning journey throughout the year.
